Dallas, Texas, resident Paul McIntosh fell in love with city of Hudson and with a woman who would become his wife when he was sent to Hudson for a six month job assignment. They met in May, were engaged in July, they moved back to his home state of Texas in August and were married in September. That was in 2009. During the winter of 2010 the couple moved back to the area to be closer to her family and friends.

McIntosh, an investment banker by trade and schooling, is taking on a new challenge: the retail world. This week he will open Uptown Couture in the former Lillian's location at 419 Second St.

The idea to put a unique shop in Hudson had been in the back of McIntosh's mind for some time. Uptown Couture is modeled after a shop in Woodbury, Minn.

"I said 'I would love to put something like this in Hudson,'" said McIntosh, "This is the one thing they don't have, a local place where residents can go to get designer clothing.'"

Before long his idea would take shape in reality.

"Within four days of a sign going up in the window we had signed a lease," said McIntosh. "The space was already laid out perfectly."

The store will offer men's and women's clothing and shoes, as well as purses, accessories, watches, jewelry and hats. The stock will include new and used inventory. People will be able to sell or consign items.

"I have great access to really good merchandise," said McIntosh, who will be acquiring inventory from a variety of sources. "It allows us to offer the same stuff at a great price break. It will be boutique fashion and will change with the seasons." Items will start at 50 to 60 percent of retail and with sales, most will be 60 to 80 percent off. A partial list of the nearly 80 designers and brands they will have at various times includes the following: Affliction, Armani, BEBE, Billabong, Chanel CC, Coach, Dior, Elie Tahari, Giambattista Valli, Jean Paul, Love Pink VS, Northface, Rebel Spirit and Thomas Pink.

"I fell in love with the town," said McIntosh. "It has a great feel. This town has so much potential, I knew this was where I wanted to put the store."

Uptown Couture's target customers are teenagers to adults.

"It is meant to be a store for everybody," said McIntosh.

Uptown Couture's grand opening is Saturday, May 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Normal store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. For more information regarding the store or how to consign your items you may contact McIntosh at (715) 808-0210. A website,, is presently under construction.
