In the final years of her almost 30-year career in school and city government, Chantal Doriott had her first experience with the concept of mindfulness on a half-day retreat at the University of Minnesota.
"It's one of those aha moments," Doriott said.
Doriott connected to the idea of mindfulness, and decided to take more courses.
"I came away from that with such a high vibration of energy personally," Doriott said. "I was totally invigorated with life."
Using what she learned, Doriott created a vision board for a lifestyle business idea. When she found the board months later, rather than the business cues, it was one phrase that stood out - "Mindful moment."
Doriott said it was a moment that gave her goosebumps, and after her retirement led her to her new life and new business Mindful Way Coaching.
After seeing the effect the idea of mindfulness has on herself and her family, Dorriot is looking to share it with her community. She is hosting classes throughout Hudson, including at Inspiring Actions, Cook and Henriksen Chiropractic and the Hudson YMCA.
"I'm excited to work with other businesses in Hudson," Doriott said.
She will be hosting classes covering mindful eating, mindfulness based stress reduction, mindfulness meditation practices and vision boards.
Mindfulness based stress reduction can help with mild depression, anxiety and the stress of daily life, Doriott said.
Doriott teaches a few meditation techniques from body scan to quiet sitting meditation.
"There's no wrong way," Doriott said.
Doriott hopes to lead by example, and help people learn to love and take advantage of mindfulness.
"I want people to see that being mindful doesn't mean you're boring," she said.
Being mindful is as simple as taking four minutes a day in a quiet space to pay attention and listen to oneself.
"You'd see a difference in some aspect of your life," Doriott said.
