'Green' training in Hudson May 20

The St. Croix Valley Home Builders Association along with Healthy Homes is offering a green building training session May 20 at the Hudson Golf Club to begin disbursing information and providing education on the Green Build program that has been endorsed by the Wisconsin Builders Association.

This training session is being offered to all contractors who are required to earn 12 continuing education credits in two years, which allows them to pull permits in the state of Wisconsin. This four-hour session will allow contractors to secure four of those 12 credits to be used either to earn or renew their Wisconsin Department of Commerce's Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Credentials.

The session is intended to give an introductory overview to green building practices. Participants will review the key areas of green building with emphasis on the top three green areas: energy efficiency, resources conservation and indoor air quality.

Topics include:

  • The Green Building Guidelines -- Why Energy is at the Core? Also, land development, site planning and construction waste management.
  • Energy efficiency -- heating and air conditioning systems and equipment, duct design and installation tips and renewable energy.
  • Water conservation -- water heating.
  • Indoor environmental quality -- VOCs and chemicals, ventilation and filtration.
  • Material choices -- certification programs, regional manufacturing and recycled content.
