Learn about sustainable building

The Hudson School District is among the sponsors of a day-long training event Thursday, June 19, at Andersen Corporation's training facility, 100 Fourth Ave. N., in Bayport, Minn. The event also includes a tour of River Crest Elementary, the first LEED-certified elementary designed and built in the St. Croix Valley.

Called "Sustainable Building Projects: High Performance at Conventional Cost," the training is also sponsored by the Energy Center of Wisconsin, Andersen Windows, Focus On Energy, Hoffman Architects, Xcel Energy and the St. Croix Institute for Sustainable Community Development at UW-RF.

The event is designed for architects, building owners, construction managers and contractors, design professionals, facility professionals and school officials.

According to information provided by the school district, anyone involved in new construction projects will benefit from the information presented on management methods, practical tools and guidelines to assist in planning, designing and managing the construction of a sustainable school and other types of commercial buildings at standard project costs.

Presenters will also discuss spatial form, windows, lighting, HVAC systems and the use of modeling to inform these project elements. Particular emphasis will be given to achieving a high level of energy efficiency.
