Carrie Sutter and Carmen Boyd both arrived in Hudson for family reasons. Sutter, a Rice Lake native, moved five years ago to be closer to relatives. Boyd and her husband relocated from California so their special-needs daughter could benefit from the programs offered at Special Children's Center.

The two massage therapists met while both were working at New Beginnings Day Spa, which closed in August. The Lotus Touch opened September 1.

Sutter has been a therapist for 10 years, having graduated from the Minneapolis School of Massage and Body Work. It was while she was working in Arizona that Sutter first became aware of massage therapy. She was at low point with both her weight and self esteem, when she met a woman who had long practiced massage therapy.

"It was an amazing eye opener," said Sutter. "Working with her and realizing the benefits is what pushed me into it as a career."

For Boyd, it is something she considers a gift, like intuition.

"I have been doing this since I was very young," said Boyd. "So I decided I might as well get paid for it." Boyd graduated from the Globe College's program in massage therapy and has been in practice for seven years.

"It was something I was just meant to do," said Boyd. "I love making people feel better."

The team of massage therapists offers a full range of services including Shiatsu, Thai massage, foot reflexology and pregnancy massage as well as aromatherapy and hot stone upgrades.

The Lotus Touch is open by appointment Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.

A grand opening is planned Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sutter and Boyd will be offering free chair massages along with free eye brow waxing as well as special discounts if a massage is booked. Gift certificates are always available.
