The Phipps Dance Company is preparing for their eighth annual performances on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts.

The company is led by artistic directors Barb Suick and Stephanie Campbell. The current company is comprised of 13 auditioned dancers who range in age from 13 to 18 years old.

Included in the concerts this year are modern, ballet, hip-hop, tap, and Bollywood selections. In addition to pieces by Campbell and Suick, the concerts will showcase works by four guest choreographers: Jocelyn Gorham, Mackenzie Lewis, Bre Poliak, and Kyra Scanlan.

Gorham is a modern, South Indian, and Middle Eastern dance artist who received her degree in dance and theater arts from the University of Minnesota and performed with the Nancy Hauser Dance Company, Jawaahir Dance Company, and Ragamala Music and Dance Theater. Gorham has set the piece "Maha Masala," with choreography by Aparna Keshavia, to the Bollywood music "Mere Khwabon Mein," from "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge." The piece also includes music by Godmother and Kamal Heer.

Scanlon's modern piece, "We Could Have," was inspired by the fluctuation of human relationships. The piece uses "Wake Low," an instrumental cello by Julia Kent and "We Fell," with piano and vocals by S. Carey. Scanlon, with a minor in dance from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, has performed at the American College Dance Festival, with InKline Dance Company, and in "Dances, Chances, Circumstances" at The Phipps.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for all students. Reservations may be made by contacting The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or online at The Phipps.
