4 Wisconsin baseball teams head to NCAA tourney
Four Wisconsin teams are among the 53 named early this morning to the NCAA Division 3 baseball tournament.
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, Ripon College, and Carthage all received berths.
UW-Stevens Point will host one of the eight regionals.
The brackets and schedules were not immediately released. Play begins on Wednesday.
The Pointers won the WIAC Tournament with a 9-2 win over Oshkosh during the weekend.
UW-Stevens Point has the top seed in its regional, and Oshkosh is No. 5. Ripon has the three-seed after edging St. Norbert 6-5 to win the Midwest Conference tourney.
Minnesota schools have the other three seeds. St. Thomas is second, St. Olaf fourth and St. Scholastica sixth.
Carthage, meanwhile, is headed to the Illinois Wesleyan regional. The Red Men were seeded third after winning the CCIW Tournament. They beat Augustana 5-3 in 10 innings in Saturday's final.
All the regionals run through Sunday. The Division 3 finals will be played May 25-29 at Fox Cities Stadium near Appleton.
