Local farmer's market opens

The Hudson Farmer's Market, located in Plaza 94 on Coulee Road, opens Thursday, June 18. The market runs every Thursday throughout the summer from 7 a.m.-noon, featuring seasonal produce, cut flowers and other goods. More information is available at


HOME meal is tonight

The free Hudson Outreach Meal for Everyone, scheduled the first and third Thursday of the month, is tonight at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St. Serving is from 5-6:30 p.m.

Organization promotes life

St. Croix Valley Christians for Life will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at St. Croix Valley Cabinetry, 476 County A.

Government meeting calendar moves

The Community Calendar that formerly appeared in Section C of the Star-Observer -- and includes information on upcoming government meetings -- has been moved. It now appears weekly in Section B of the newspaper in the Records section.

Kinni group plans social

Smithsonian comes to RF

"Key Ingredients: America by Food"

The River Falls Public Library is one of six stops in Wisconsin that the Smithsonian exhibition "Key Ingredients: America by Food" will make on its 2110-11 tour. It's scheduled in River Falls Jan. 28-March 11, 2011.

The exhibition is designed for rural communities and explores how the food people eat, grow and have at their celebrations has cultural and geographic roots. Programs will connect the stories, traditions and interests of people in River Falls to those around the state and country.

Ham radio has field day

St. Croix Valley Radio Amateurs are hosting an annual field day at 1 p.m. in Hoffman Park in River Falls (547 Hanson Drive), Saturday, June 27.

Featured will be hands-on demonstrations for those interested in learning about antennas, radios, FCC protocol and how ham radio functions in emergency communications. A potluck start at 5 p.m.

Circus coming to town

The 2009 Wisconsin Jaycees Circus will be in River Falls Tuesday, June 23, for two performances, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., at the Wildcat Centre Arena.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for children 12 and under, and are on sale one hour before showtime at the arena box office.
