HHS presents 'Beauty'

The Hudson High School music department will present the Disney version of "Beauty and the Beast" two weekends in November. Tickets are currently on sale.

Performances are Nov. 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. Matinees are 2 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, 21 and 22.

Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults and are on sale at the HHS box office, 1501 Vine St. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3-7 p.m. For more information, call the box office at (715) 377-3808.

Author discusses hauntings

Michael Norman, writer, actor and retired UWRF journalism professor, will be reading from his new book, "The Nearly Departed: Minnesota Hauntings and Legends," on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the River Falls Public Library.

This program, well-suited for the Halloween season, focuses on the seventh in Norman's Haunted America series. "Nearly Departed" is a collection of 48 ghost stories and legends from our neighboring state, including tales of haunted theaters, bed and breakfasts, Victorian mansions, isolated farmhouses, historical museums, college halls, a small town funeral home, and a former orphanage.

Wine event set Nov. 13

The Hudson Hospital Foundation Wine Tasting event is scheduled Friday, Nov. 13, 5-8 p.m. at the Hudson Golf Club. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

The evening includes wines from around the world, organized by the wine experts at Knotty Vines, 606 B Brakke Drive. Also available will be appetizers and chocolate treats from Knoke's Chocolates. Proceeds from the event benefit Hudson Hospital & Clinics.

Rail service for Hudson?

An informational meeting is scheduled to discuss the possibility of bringing passenger rail service to Hudson. The meeting is Monday, Nov. 2, from 7-8 p.m. in Room 212 of the Municipal (Library) Building at 911 4th St. For more information contact Paul Bode at 381-8178 or dlbode@sbcglobal.net.

'Annie' at Old Gem

The Old Gem Theater¹s Young Performers Ensemble presents "Annie Jr." at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.

Based on the classic comic strip, Little Orphan Annie, "Annie Jr." is the story of orphans trying to make it in depression-era New York City.

Surrounded by colorful characters, Annie is dropped into the lap of luxury in a millionaire¹s mansion and works her way into everyone's heart. It is a condensed version of the Broadway smash hit "Annie" and features all the favorite tunes from that show including "It's a Hard Knock Life," "Easy Street," and "Tomorrow."

Tickets are $11 for adults and $9 for students and seniors.
