Arnold Meincke, 94
Arnold William Meincke passed away peacefully in hospice care at the Christian Community Home in Hudson on Sunday, April 6, at the age of 94.
He was born in Pensaukee on Feb. 1, 1914, to parents Edmund and Anna (Nygren) Meincke.
Arnold grew up in Wabeno, graduating in 1932 from Wabeno High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1936 with a degree in electrical engineering. While at UW-Madison, he played in the Badger marching band. He worked for Wisconsin Public Service Corp. until his retirement in 1976.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945.
On Aug. 25, 1951 he was united in marriage to Rose Fornella. Arnold and Rose made their home in Wausau and Green Bay. They were members of First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay.
In his free time, Arnold enjoyed building and remodeling, as well as gardening, and he was especially proud of his rose garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anita; his brother, Russell; and his wife, Rose, in January 2008.
He is survived by his sons, Carl (Judy) Meincke of Hudson and Philip Meincke of Green Bay; grandsons, Tony, Alex, James and Dominic Meincke of Hudson; nephews, Edmund (Debbie) Meincke of Amston, Conn., James (Gail) Meincke of Holland, Mich., Dennis (Ruth) Fornella of Sebring, Fla.; nieces, Eleanor (Tony) Szpak of Parma, Ohio, Donna (Howard) Linder of Columbus, Ohio, Sandra (Don) Harper of Columbus, Ohio; and brother-in-law, James Fornella of Pittsburgh.
The service will be Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Hudson with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers a memorial to ASPIRO, a non-profit organization in Green Bay, Wis., dedicated to servicing people with cognitive disabilities.
