Art students design new Lakefront flower planters
The Hudson Park Board on June 2 approved replacing the two flower planters that now stand in front of the Hudson arch with two new planters designed by local residents and UW-River Falls art students Jesse and Nadia Hoffman.
The new 8-foot-long and 3-foot-wide precast concrete planters will be in the shape of sailboats.
Paul Nasvik of Milestones Inc. in North Hudson will make the planters.
The plan is for each planter to also have a 9-foot tall mast that could be decorated with banners or fabric from time to time.
The estimated cost of the project is $6,400. The money for it will come from a park donations account.
Lead City Gardener Nancy Fouks told the Park Board that the existing planters are in need of repair or replacement.
The new planters will be located a short distance away from the spot where a bronze statue of a Boy Scout will be placed later this summer or in early fall.
