Badger football team gets a trip to Los Angeles for Christmas
The Wisconsin football team arrived in Los Angeles late Christmas Day to continue getting ready for next Tuesday's Rose Bowl Game against Stanford.
Coach Barry Alvarez said the Badgers are ready for their final week of preparation, despite having shorter bowl practices than under previous coach Bret Bielema.
Wisconsin had 10 workouts in Madison of 60 to 90 minutes each. Alvarez said the game plan is set, and the players have worked hard and concentrated well.
The Badgers come in at 8-5. Alvarez notes that this year's team has already played more games than in most of his 16 previous seasons on the Wisconsin sideline.
Therefore, Alvarez says, "There's no reason to beat 'em up and keep them out there, just to have repetition after repetition."
He said the players need to stay fresh and healthy, and keep their timing in the process.
Most recruits still committed to Wisconsin
Wisconsin's new football coach, Gary Andersen, appears to be hanging onto most of the players who committed to former coach Bret Bielema.
Only one player from the class of 2013 has officially dropped his commitment. Junior college defensive back Tiquention Coleman decided to follow Bielema to Arkansas.
Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said Tuesday night that he thought the commitments were "very solid" for the most part.
Alvarez said over a dozen recruits went to his home during the Badgers' official recruiting weekend in early December, just a few days after Bielema had left.
Alvarez said he knew that as soon as a new coach was hired the team would be OK. The Badger football team has 17 known recruits committed for next season.
