Balance can mean a lot of things but for many, including Jo Ann Bemoras, it was practically a question of life or death.

Bemoras grew up in Ellsworth as Jo Ann Bauer and returned to the Midwest from the East Coast for family reasons after more than a decade as a news anchor. She moved to Hudson five years ago.

Soon after her return, she started working for KSTP as a television reporter.

Two years ago, Bemoras started having significant health problems, which resulted in a number of surgeries, the most recent this spring.

"I needed balance -- you need to be balanced spiritually, emotionally and physically," said Bemoras. While visiting Arizona during January 2007, Bemoras found Holy Yoga, a spiritually based Yoga class. As a result, she became a certified Holy Yoga instructor.

"I got healthier, strong and the Holy Yoga absolutely feeds my soul," said Bemoras. "I love television news but what once fed me was now eating me." She officially concluded her 17-year career in broadcast journalism this week to pursue her newest passion.

"For 17 years I've been connecting to people through a camera lens. Now I'm trading in the microphone for a yoga mat. Yoga is truly where my heart is, and I'm humbled and honored to join Inspiring Actions Yoga Studio & Wellness Center. Tracey Mortensen and I share the same vision of bringing you high-quality yoga with a personal touch, and we look forward to joining you on your journey to a balanced body, mind and spirit."

Mortensen and Bemoras now own and operate Inspiring Actions LLC together and are expanding the studio and class offerings. The studio is located at 1810 Webster St., Suite 5, in Hudson.

In addition to providing a variety of yoga classes for all levels of students, Inspiring Actions also offers a Wellness Center featuring Reiki, massage therapy and therapeutic coaching. And to satisfy the shopper in you, Inspiring Actions has an intimate boutique of spirit-inspired jewelry, yoga clothing and accessories.

"I am the poster child for how yoga can benefit you," said Bemoras. "Without yoga I wouldn't be doing so hot."

Bemoras had surgery on the vertebrae in her neck, and after a month for recovery she continued her yoga practice.

Holy Yoga is Hatha yoga that begins with contemplation of a scripture verse and is accompanied by upbeat contemporary Christian music. Bemoras also teaches traditional yoga.

"I really wanted to be rooted here," said Bemoras. "I absolutely love Hudson and I am thrilled to be living here."

A free Wellness Day is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Inspiring Actions. The event is free and will include speakers, information booths and chair massages. For more information, visit www.inspiringactions.com.
