Baseball posts record-setting season
Juniors Mike Hommes and Todd Mork head up a field of eight Hudson players who have been named to 2012 All-Big Rivers Conference baseball teams.
Hommes and Mork were both named to the All-BRC First Team while seniors Brett Steinwagner and Kellen Pearson, and sophomore Miles Lewis, were named to the Second Team. Senior Drew Pheneger and juniors Stef Smith and Austin Evenson earned All-BRC Honorable mention.
Steinwagner was named to the All-BRC Second Team for the second straight season while Pearson earned Second Team honors after receiving Honorable Mention is 2011.
Hommes led the Raiders in hitting this season with an average of .413 while posting the most runs scored (32), total hits (38), doubles (14) and triples (5) of any Hudson player since 2005. He was voted the Raiders' Most Valuable Player by his teammates.
Mork led Hudson with four home runs and 21 RBI and was named the Raiders' Most Improved Player by his teammates.
Pearson earned the team's Most Outstanding Pitcher award, tying for the team lead in victories with five while posting a team-low earned run average of 2.55. His 13 games pitched ties him for second in the Raider record book and his 49.1 innings pitched is the second most since 2005.
Steinwagner held opponents to an average of just .160, the best all-time at Hudson, while at the plate his three triples ties him for third most in a single season.
Pheneger picked up the team's Defensive Player of the Year award while his 11 stolen bases ties him for the most in a single season since 2005. He also received his team's Academic Award for his work in the classroom.
The Raiders also set a number of team records this season, including best team batting average of .305. The team's .414 slugging percentage was also the best in history, as were total hits (220), average runs per game (6.68), doubles (40), triples (12) and double plays (19).
