The Raider gymnastics team will be sending its lone senior to state this weekend.

Jenny Bernsteen will wrap up her high school career at the WIAA State Individual Gymnastics Championships Friday evening in Wisconsin Rapids. Bernsteen qualified for the state meet in three events--bars, floor and all-around--at last weekend's sectional tournament at D.C. Everest High School.

As a team the Raiders just missed earning a spot in the state team championships, which will be held Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids. Hudson finished third with a score of 130.225. The top two teams and the top five finishers in each event moved on to state competition.

Bernsteen placed second on the uneven bars with a score of 8.875 and was fourth in the floor exercise with 8.675 to earn berths at state in both events. She also will compete in the state all-around competition after scoring 8.525 in the vault and 7.95 on the balance beam to give her a total score of 34.025 Saturday. That score was good enough for third place in the sectional all-around.

Bernsteen will compete in all the individual events at Saturday's state tournament but will only be eligible to place in the events she qualified for.

Sophomore Sarah Monette just missed joining Bernsteen at state. Monette finished just one place away from qualifying in both the bars and floor with sixth place scores of 8.45 and 8.425, respectively.

Eau Claire won the sectional team championship with a score of 136.725 and will compete at Saturday's state team championships along with second place Stevens Point, who scored 135.225.

The individual portion of the state gymnastics tournament gets underway at 5:40 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. Tickets are $6 per person.
