Hudson used a conference titlist in the longest event, and top-seven finishes in all events, to place fourth in the BRC swim meet.

In the 100 butterfly, where the Raiders produced a seventh, they also had a tenth. In all other events they had a placing of sixth or higher, and three of the divers were in the top 10.

Hudson scored 345 points, 41 ahead of Eau Claire North and 30 behind Menomonie. Eau Claire Memorial won with 568 points, and host River Falls was runner-up with 429.

Senior Chella Bhagyam is the conference champion in the 500 yard freestyle, with a 5:34.57 time that won by 0.43 seconds. She and another senior, Hannah Wiseman of Chippewa Falls who placed second, took turns having the fastest splits. In all, Bhagyam had six of the fastest 10 splits.

The third-place finisher from Menomonie was 8.3 seconds in back of Bhagyam.

"Hudson had some good swims. Most of the team is still on taper, so next week should be a great meet for our team," said Coach Dick Clark, who this season headed the entire swimming and diving team, after a few years building success with just the divers. "We also had some very good freshman swims that created personal best times," Clark said.

Other Raider individuals in the top ten are: Thirds, junior Noey Anderson in the 200 individual medley (2:22.94) and freshman Catie Weese in the 100 freestyle (58.47); fourths, Bhagyam in the 200 freestyle (2:06.41, just 0.03 out of third) and Anderson in the 100 backstroke (1:07.16); sixths, Weese in the 50 freestyle (26.92), junior Melissa Stagg in 1 meter diving (293.5) and junior Melly Meyer in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.71); sevenths, freshman Amanda Baker in diving (290.9) and senior Mackenzee Nicely in the butterfly (1:09.55); eighth, freshman Shannon Grayes in the 500 freestyle (6:02.16); ninths, sophomore Ebonee Townsend in the 50 freestyle (27.33) and sophomore Sarah Monette in diving (262.55); and tenth, Townsend in the butterfly (1:10.07).

The highest relay finish was fifth by the 200 medley team of Anderson, Meyer, Bhagyam and Weese with a 2:02.72.

Next up is the sectional meet at the Hudson Middle School pool Friday night and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8. Diving will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and the swimming events begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and end in the late afternoon.
