Bomb squad helps check for hazardous materials

At 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, River Falls police assisted the FBI in carrying out a search warrant at an apartment building at 905 S. Sycamore St. The search was related to an investigation of computer crimes.

According to police, during the apartment search officers found several known and unknown substances and chemicals that raised a public safety concern.

The Bloomington, Minn., Police Bomb Squad was called to check the apartment to identify the substances and any related potential hazards.

The bomb squad identified those substances and said they posed no significant risk.

Some items were seized as evidence. Police and the bomb squad left the apartment about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. No one was arrested.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department and St. Paul Police Bomb squad also were called in to assist.
