Booster tryouts, clinics slated
The Hudson Booster boys baseball competitive traveling teams will have tryouts the weekend of April 11-13. The tryouts are:
In addition, the Boosters will sponsor baseball tryout clinics at the Willow River Elementary gym from 6-8 p.m. on the following nights: Tuesday, April 1, 10- and 11-year-olds; Wednesday, April 2, 12-year-olds; Tuesday, April 8, 13-year-olds; and Thursday, April 10, 14-year-olds.
The clinics will let athletes work on fundamentals and the skills that will be evaluated at tryouts -- hitting, infield and outfield. Hitting will be evaluated by using a batting machine and soft toss. Outfield and infield skills gauged will include technique, arm strength and accuracy. In addition, players will be tested on pitching, catching and speed.
The fee for playing on a traveling team is $200, which must be paid prior to tryouts. The fee includes league play, tournaments and uniform. Players who do not make a traveling team can play for a recreational team at their age level. Age qualifications for the traveling teams are listed on the Hudson Booster website.
Coaches for the traveling teams are selected by the Booster Baseball Selection Committee. The Boosters encourage any person who is interested in coaching to indicate that on their registration form. Registration is Tuesday, March 11, at the Hudson Middle School from 6-8 p.m.
Changes from last year's traveling teams include the addition of a 10-year-old team and a new style of uniforms. More information can be obtained through the Web site.
