Brokaw received Spirit of Community Award
Katie Brokaw is the first student from Hudson to be recognized by the Prudential Spirit of Community Award program for her extensive volunteer service to school and community.
The award was presented to the Hudson High School junior by HHS Principal Ed Lucas at the annual Community Action Volunteer Recognition Awards program. Brokaw is also an active CA volunteer.
The program is a partnership between Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Brokaw was among the top 10 percent of all applicants in the state.
As a volunteer, Brokaw has served as an HHS Peer Helper, is on the Student Council, is involved with the alcohol and tobacco initiative and serves as a member of the school's Youth Leadership board. As a Community Action volunteer she has logged more than 100 hours of service - with a service project to Chicago, as a trainer for the bullying and teasing workshops at Hudson Middle School, as a representative to Peace Jam and other CA projects. She has also volunteered at the Relay For Life, with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and at Red Ribbon Week.
Brokaw will spend a portion of her summer on an internship, serving as assistant to the director of the Minnesota Best Prep Business Venture Camp. She is the daughter of Andy and Pam Brokaw of Hudson.
