Bucks' Redd makes olympic team
Milwaukee Bucks' guard Michael Redd will be named to the U.S. Olympic basketball team for the August Games in Beijing.
The official announcement won't be made until Monday, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quotes NBA and Olympic sources as saying Redd will be on the 12-man roster for Team USA.
It's hardly a surprise.
Many insiders said the team needs Redd's three-point shooting ability. He hit 45-percent of his threes in last year's Olympic qualifying tournament and he was the Americans' fourth-leading scorer with 14 points a game off the bench.
The 28-year-old Redd has played his entire eight-year NBA career in Milwaukee.
Former Marquette guard Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat will also be on the U.S. squad.
They'll have a mini-camp starting next Friday in Las Vegas.
They'll have tune-up games against Canada, Russia and Australia before they open the Olympics against China on Aug. 10.
Bucks' forward Yi Jianlian will play for the Chinese and Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut will play for his home country of Australia.
