Lock your car - especially if it is parked in your driveway with a garage door opener inside.

That’s the advice from Hudson and North Hudson police following a rash of brazen home burglaries over the past several days.

According to Hudson detectives Geoff Willems and Pete Schultz, the thefts in Hudson occurred after midnight on Saturday, July 27 while the residents were at home asleep. The six homes reporting thefts are located in three different neighborhoods on the hill, north of I94.

The thieves used garage door openers they found in unlocked cars parked driveways to gain entrance into the homes. Once in the garage the thieves came through unlocked service doors to get inside.

The homeowners said the property taken included purses, laptops, Ipads and other items of value found in the kitchen or foyer area just off the garage. The dollar amount of the property taken is still being calculated but is in the thousands of dollars.

Willems said the cash, credit cards and checkbooks were taken from the purses which were then discarded near the homes. Some of the credit cards were used in the Hudson area and also in the Twin Cities.

It is unknown if the burglars were armed but police urge caution and to call 911 immediately if residents suspect anyone is in their home.

Willems said they do have leads they are pursuing.

A similar burglary was reported overnight on Monday in North Hudson between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Credit cards taken in that home invasion were used three times in the Eagan, Minn. area before they were reported stolen.

Police remind residents in the area to always lock their vehicles, especially when parked in their driveway with a garage door opener inside. They also say to lock any door between the residence and the garage and any service door leading into the garage.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Schultz or Willems at (715)386-4771 or North Hudson police at (715)386-8433.
