Burnley paintings stolen from hospital
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

Two oil paintings valued at close to $15,000 were stolen off the walls at Hudson Hospital two weeks ago.

The oil paintings were by Hudson artist James Otis Burnley, whose work is well known regionally. Each was approximately 26 by 30 inches and were displayed in the hospital as part of the Healing Arts program with The Phipps Center for the Arts.

According to Hudson Police Department Detective Jeff Knopps, the thief was caught on a surveillance camera but his face was not visible. The paintings were hung in the hospital hallway near the pharmacy. Police are continuing their investigation.

According to Anastasia Shartin of The Phipps, the paintings both had western themes. They were entitled "A Time to Turn In" and "Hotel Bethany." They were valued by the artist and are part of his larger collection.

Shartin said they have notified area art dealers of the theft and have provided them with pictures of the paintings.

Burnley said there is a reward for the recovery of the paintings. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hudson Police Department at (715) 386-4771.
