Car crash kills underage driver, passenger
Two young people were killed when a car driven by a 14-year-old boy sped out of control and rolled over about 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2o, southeast of Eau Claire on a road in the town of Washington.
The underage driver was killed, along with a female passenger in the front seat. Two other boys and a girl were injured. Sheriff Ron Cramer said at last word that one of those teens was in critical condition at an Eau Claire hospital.
He said the car was registered to a person from Strum. All five of the occupants were under 16, and most were students at Eleva-Strum High School. Cramer said his officers did not finish identifying the victims until about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, because none of the victims had IDs on them.
A reconstruction team will try to figure out how and why the crash occurred. The sheriff said speed was apparently the major factor, and an autopsy would be performed on the driver.
