Chippewa Falls deals Raider girls a loss
Undefeated Chippewa Falls continued its winning ways last week, defeating the visiting Hudson girls 56-34 in the final Big River Conference basketball game before the Christmas break.
The Dec. 20 victory kept the Cardinals perched atop the conference standings at 3-0, while the Raider girls are still looking for their first win in the Big Rivers.
The Cardinals got out to a 16-10 first quarter lead and increased it to 35-16 at halftime. They led 48-23 at the end of the third quarter.
"We just had trouble scoring. They were so big," said Hudson coach Dave Johnson.
The Cardinals are the No. 2-ranked Division 1 girls team in the state. They have all but one starter back from a team that made it to the state tournament last season.
Senior center Katie Layman was the leader for the Raiders, scoring 18 points by making seven of eight shots from the floor and four of five from the free-throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds.
Tara Schuknecht added nine points. She connected on three of five shots from the floor, including a three-pointer.
The Raiders were hoping to improve their 3-5 overall record in holiday action at Menomonie.
