Citizen Action petitions for health care reform
Members of Citizen Action of Wisconsin canvassed neighborhoods in western Wisconsin communities recently in an effort to improve health care in the state.
Citizens were asked to sign a petition to support improved health care in the state by placing an advisory referendum on the November ballot.
The proposed referendum on reads, "Shall the state legislature enact health care reform legislation by Dec. 31, 2009 that guarantees every Wisconsin resident affordable coverage as good as what is provided to state legislators."
The petition effort collected more than 3,500 signatures in Hudson, River Falls, New Richmond and Menomonie, said Andrew Werthmann, Citizen Action Northwest Wisconsin organizer.
Two area members of the action group spearheaded the delivery to the Hudson City Hall Thursday. Ben Larson of Hudson and Mitch Gustafson, Roberts, dropped off a stack of petitions for City Clerk Nancy Korson.
