CITY OF HUDSON
ORDINANCE NO. 4-14
AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 59 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Ordinance repealing and recreating Section 59-6 of the Municipal Code of the City of Hudson:
Whereas, Wis. Stats. 66.0502(3)(a) now prohibits a local government unit to have a residency requirement; and
Whereas, Wis. Stats. 66.0502(4)(b) provides that a local government unit may impose a residency restriction on law enforcement, fire, or emergency personnel that requires such personnel to reside within 15 miles of the jurisdictional boundaries of the local government unit, and
Whereas, Wis. Stats. 66.0502(4)(d) provides that residency requirements noted above does not apply to any volunteer law enforcement, fire, or emergency personnel who are employees of a local government unit,
Now therefore, the Common Council of the City of Hudson hereby ordains as follows:
The City of Hudson Municipal Code Section 59-6 is hereby repealed and recreated as follows:
59-6 Residency Requirements
Pursuant to Wis. Stats. 66.0502(3)(a), the City shall not impose any residency requirement on any City employee, with the following exceptions provided for in Wis. Stats. 66.0502 (4)(b):
A. The Police Chief, the Chief of St. Croix EMS, the Fire Chief/Fire Inspector, full-time sworn Police Officers, full-time Fire Department personnel, and full-time Paramedics shall live within 15 miles of the jurisdictional boundaries of the City.
B. Full time employees in the positions noted in Paragraph A above, who live more than 15 miles outside the jurisdictional boundaries of the City when this ordinance is adopted, shall be exempt from the residency requirement in Section 59-6 A.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication as required by law.
