The next bill for water and sewer service that Hudson and North Hudson property owners get will arrive in an envelope.

Until now, the city of Hudson has sent the bills on postcards.

Finance Officer Betty Caruso reported to the City Council's Finance Committee on April 1 that mechanical problems with the machine that prints the postcard bills is one of the reasons for the change.

Caruso said the postcard bills also tend to get lost. Sometimes the bills become hidden in other mail and utility customers unknowingly throw them away, she said.

Privacy is an issue, too, she said, since the bills aren't inside an envelope.

She said that using envelopes to send the bills will also allow the city to include other information it wants to get to residents.

Caruso reported to the Finance Committee on a number of options she was considering for replacing the current billing system.

City officials have since selected a new system that will be used to prepare the bills that will arrive in mailboxes in the first week May.
