Civil War group lists season's programs

The St. Croix Valley Civil War Round Table has announced its speaker schedule for the 2008-09 season.

The group meets the fourth Monday of the month at the Lowell Inn, 102 Second St. N., in Stillwater, Minn., beginning with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and continuing with a 6:15 buffet, a brief business meeting and a free program.

Cost is $20 in advance, $22 at the door. For reservations, call 715-386-1268.

  • Sept. 22, group past-President Ken Martens will provide an overview of "The Role of the Color Guard in Battle."
  • Oct. 27, Minnesota Historical Society staff member Hampton Smith will talk about "The 1st Minnesota Artillery in the Civil War."
  • Nov. 24, founder of the Wood Lake Battlefield Association, Tom Hosier, will present "Minnesota's Dakota Conflict and the Wood Lake Battlefield."
  • Jan. 26, Retired head of Fort Snelling Steve Osman will teach about "Collecting Civil War Memorabilia."
  • Feb. 23, author Dave Page will finish his presentation from last year with "The Wilmington Campaign: Part II."
  • March 30, licensed Gettysburg Battlefield Guild John Cox will showcase "The First Day of Gettysburg."
  • April 27, author Michael Martin will discuss his book, "The 4th Wisconsin Infantry/Cavalry."
  • May 18, round table founding member Steve Anderson will share his knowledge "On Civil War Books."
