Each time Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre comes to Houlton Elementary School the enthusiasm grows. This year over 90 students expressed an interest in participating. This year’s production, Pinocchio had roles for 75 students. Due to the keen interest of many students, a number of new production positions were designated for them.

Support positions filled this year by students included the following: sound and light, wardrobe manager, stage makeup, photographer’s assistant/photo editor, cast board, program creation, ushers/greeters, concession stand sales, free will donation collectors and pre-performance welcome/announcements.

After only 14 hours of rehearsal the students gave two performances of “Pinocchio” on March 28 at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m.

The Houlton Parent Association in concert with Houlton Elementary School make possible the artist in residence program, Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre, a reality. Founded in 1987, it is professional touring theatre company based in Barrett, Minn. They are a recipient of the Minnesota Alliance for Arts in Education award for excellence.
