Work has begun on the Hudson Hospital & Clinics campus to prepare for the new Medical Office Building. The first phase of the process is parking lot construction which includes the removal of a significant number of trees on the northeast corner and along the island areas of the campus entrance.

Hospital officials said tree removal is necessary for excavation purposes and to make the appropriate utilities available for the parking lot relocation to accommodate the new Medical Office Building. The contractor is working with an environmental landscaping company on plans for planting new trees and native plants to ensure the campus' prairie-like look and feel will be maintained.

Access to the campus will remain open and the helipad will not be affected. The parking lot construction work is anticipated to be completed by Nov. 1, weather permitted. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for later this fall. The 41,000-square-foot, two-story Medical Office Building is expected to be completed in 2013.
