Fundraising has started in earnest for a welcome center at YMCA Camp St. Croix that will also serve as a conference center, year-round classroom space and storm shelter.

The camp hosted a breakfast on Jan. 16 to unveil plans for the building and encourage donations toward the $1.1 million it will take to complete it.

The building will be located on the old farmstead on the north side of the 400-acre camp that is the location of the summer DayCroix program.
