Jon Timblin, 20, of Rice Lake and Glenwood City died on Monday, July 23, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Timblin graduated from Cameron High School in 2010. For the past two years, Timblin was studying biology and chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
"I know he had great potential and a bright future," said Cheng-chen Huang, Timblin's academic adviser and professor at River Falls. "He was a good kid and had broad interests."
One of those interests was music. Timblin was a singer in the UW-River Falls Concert Choir. He also took some music classes and Huang said he did very well.
Huang said Timblin was always positive and had many friends and acquaintances from high school and his time at college.
"He was pretty energetic," Huang said. "I know he had a lot of friends."
Outside of school, Timblin enjoyed golf and the outdoors. He worked at Pheasant Hills Golf Course in Hammond. Prior to that, he worked at Turtleback Golf Club in Rice Lake for five years.
Mike Couch, the manager at Pheasant Hills Golf Course, said Timblin "always had a smile on his face" and was a great person and employee.
"He had a really good sense of humor and a really positive outlook on life," Couch said. "He's going to be so missed."
Couch said that Timblin had only been working at the golf course since April, but he touched everybody he worked with.
"We feel real fortunate to have had him for the time that we did," Couch said.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Timblin was driving on state Highway 48 east of Hinkley, Minn. when another vehicle went over the centerline and hit his vehicle head-on.
Both Timblin and the other driver, Alva Rankin, 61, of Lake Nebagamon, were killed in the accident.
A passenger in Timblin's car, identified by state patrol as 18-year-old Alexandria Lund of Cameron, was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth with critical injuries. According to reports, all three victims were wearing their seat belts.
Funeral services for Timblin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Maranatha Evangelical Free Church in Rice Lake.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 27, at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.
