Despite judges order killer can't find a home
A mental patient who killed his sister in 1984 will not be transferred to a Madison group home.
Mark Staskal, 44, of Milton was found innocent by insanity and a Rock County judge has been trying to get him placed in a facility where he can readjust to society.
Last fall, Staskal spent a short time at a group home in Eau Claire. But he was returned to the state's Mendota Mental Health Institute after residents and city officials complained.
This week, the judge ordered that Staskal be transferred to a Madison group home. That, too, generated public opposition.
Now, Alderman Brenda Konkol says the home's owner refuses to take Staskal.
She quoted the provider as saying there's so much misinformation about the case in public and he cannot address it because of patient confidentiality laws.
