A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in "The Big Bad Musical." The jury, which is the audience, must decide the outcome of the biggest trial that's ever taken place in the fairy tale world. The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by quirky storybook characters who want to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest -- the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother -- clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.

Director Kasey Jean Tunell, who staged "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," "Steel Magnolias" and "The Cemetery Club" at The Phipps, is excited to be back mounting this production. "I love working with The Phipps Children's Theater because everyone is so supportive in every aspect of the process. From the production coordinators and designers, to parents and the student actors, there is such an incredible energy generated during these shows, and that energy and creativity is contagious," says Tunell.

She wanted to direct the production of "The Big Bad Musical" at The Phipps because she says the show is a fascinating spin on what happens after the traditional fairy tale story has finished. "You get to see the fairy-tale characters that we have all grown up with in a whole new light," says Tunell. "The show takes the audience on a journey, in the courtroom and beyond, bringing the fairy tale world to a 'Law & Order'-type setting." She adds, "Besides that, who doesn't love a 'Choose Your Own Adventure?'"

"The Big Bad Musical will be performed Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m., as well as Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theater.

General admission tickets are $10 for children and $12 for all adults. Reservations may be made by contacting The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or online at www.ThePhipps.org.
