Daily walleye bag limits are being dropped on several lakes across the region by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources because of the annual tribal spearing harvest.

These bag limits are effective from May 3, 2008 to March 1, 2009.

The following is a listing of lakes and their new bag limits.

St. Croix County: Cedar-3

Polk County: Balsam -3, Bear-5, Big Lake-5, Big Butternut-3, Big Round-3, Half Moon-3, Indianhead Flowage-5, Magnor-3, Pipe-3, and Wapogassett-3

Dunn County: Tainter-3

Chippewa: Chain (Chippewa/Rusk counties)-2, Holcombe Flowage-3, Long-2, Sand-3, and Wissota-3

According to DNR officials there will be a three-walleye bag limit for sport anglers on 88 lakes, a two-fish daily bag limit on 324 lakes, and one lake will have a daily bag limit of one walleye.

Typically 150-170 lakes are used by tribal spearers for the annual harvest.

DNR officials will review the tribal harvest following the spring spear-fishing season and bag limits will be revised upwards on lakes lightly or not speared.

The adjusted bag limits are available in portable document format on the regulations page of the DNR Fishing Wisconsin Web site and are being published as an insert to the 2008-2009 Guide to Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations.
