Driver struck by vehicle walking to school bus at MR Convenience
A driver for Safeway Bus Co. was struck by a car while returning to her bus after stopping to use the rest room at the MR Convenience, according to an employee of the gas station and convenience store located north of I-94 at Exit 4.
Safeway provides bus service for students in the Hudson School District.
The accident happened at about 7:45 a.m. Thursday.
The bus driver was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Law enforcement radio traffic indicated the woman was a pedestrian in the business's parking lot when she was struck by an SUV traveling 15 to 20 miles per hour. The victim struck her head on the pavement and St. Croix County deputies on the scene characterized her condition as grave.
Paramedics were able to stabilize her and she was taken by ambulance to Hudson Hospital where a helicopter landed to transport her to Regions at about 8:50 a.m.
A woman in the Safeway Bus Co. office in the town of Hudson confirmed that accident victim was a company employee, but declined to give her name.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Department hasn't responded to a request for a report on the accident.
