An Evening of Elegance: Hudson’s new royalty is crowned
:Alex Bourdeau was crowned the new Miss Hudson before an audience of several hundred people in the Hudson High School Auditorium on Thursday evening, July 3.
The soon-to-be high school senior will spend the next year representing Hudson at numerous community events around the region, along with her princesses Dani Baierl, Sarah Lockbaum and Maria Cote, also crowned during last week’s Miss Hudson pageant.
Thirteen candidates vied for the right to serve as Hudson’s ambassadors.
Cheri Buelow served as the emcee of the pageant, titled “An Evening of Elegance … A Lifetime of Excellence.”
Buelow led the audience in song as part of her welcome. The lyrics included, “This is gonna be the best day of her life, Miss Hudson.”
The candidates performed an opening dance routine to “Buy My Love,” and after the introduction of the judges, were introduced wearing their evening gowns.
The candidates each stated one of their favorite things about Hudson, and then answered a question written on a slip of paper they drew from a bowl.
Lockbaum was recognized for selling the most $5 tickets to the pageant. Pageant sponsors and visiting royalty were also acknowledged.
After a video show of their activities over the past year, 2013 Miss Hudson Bethany Klanderman and her princesses, Chelsea Bates and Emily Holman, bid their adieus.
Finally, and with much suspense, the new court was crowned by the departing royalty.
The mission of the Miss Hudson Program is to “provide dedicated young women the opportunity to make a one-year commitment to community service; allowing them to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and represent the Hudson community as goodwill ambassadors among our neighbors in Wisconsin and Minnesota.”
The members of the Miss Hudson Committee are Cheri Buelow, Amber Nadeau, Kim Poppe, Kelsey Robertson and April Simmons.
