Federal agents, police raid Smokedale Tobacco shop in Hudson

The Hudson Police Department assisted U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration task force from Minnesota in executing a search warrant Wednesday morning at the Smokedale Tobacco shop at 1525 Coulee Road, Police Chief Marty Jensen has confirmed.

The police chief responded to an inquiry from the Star-Observer on Thursday after the newspaper received a tip about the raid from a reader.

Jensen said the purpose of the search was to look for controlled substances.

“We did collect quite a bit of evidence from the shop, but I can’t say exactly what at the present time,” he said.

He said he didn’t know yet if charges against the shop owner would result from the search.

Jensen said the police department found some items it is considering forwarding to the county District Attorney’s office, that might result in charges being filed in St. Croix County Circuit Court.

The DEA would pursue any federal charges, he indicated.

The Star-Observer will report more on the story as information is made available.
