Federal stimulus money pays young people help fight invasive species
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

Wisconsin is using federal stimulus money to have young people help fight invasive species.

The DNR will employ 55 people under age 24, to show boaters how to avoid spreading things like zebra mussels and the VHS fish virus.

Employment relations secretary Roberta Gassman says volunteers have done what disadvantaged young people will get $8 an hour to do -- pass out brochures, and teach people how to properly clean out their boats.

Washington gave $100,000 in stimulus money to put the young people to work. The funding is expected to last until June of 2011.
