Feds indict Somerset man
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

A federal grand jury has indicted a Somerset man in connection with an inter-state theft operation that included off-road vehicles.

U.S. Attorney Stephen P. Sinnott said Chad Alan Wyttenbach, 35, is charged in a 10-count indictment with conspiracy, interstate transportation of stolen vehicles and interstate transportation of stolen goods.

The jury returned the indictments July 22. Wyttenbach has been summoned to appear in U.S. District Court in Madison Aug. 9. A trial was set for Nov. 1.

Two other defendants indicted on similar charges in connection with the stolen vehicle operation, Victor Ernest Trejo, 51, Prescott, and Eric Edward Garvey, 39, Danbury, were arrested in Burnett County by Sheriff's deputies and the FBI and appeared in court July 26.

Investigator Jim Mikla, who worked the case for the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, said case took eight months to a year of investigative work by a number of agencies.

"It was a multi jurisdictional investigation," Mikla said Monday.

The justice department said sheriff's departments in St. Croix, Dunn, Burnett, Barron, St. Croix Chippewa, Polk counties, the New Richmond and Webb Lake police departments were involved in the case.

There wasn't apparently a motorized vehicle the group did not like.

"We recovered stolen trucks, compact tractors, trailers, zero turn mowers, Bobcats among other equipment," Mikla said.

He said some of the machines were stolen from Polfus in New Richmond, and dealers in Chippewa Falls, Osceola and Minnesota.
