Fire destroys garage, damages home on Highview Road
A fire Tuesday evening, April 8, destroyed an attached garage and damaged the house at 330 Highview Road in the town of Hudson. The Hudson Fire Department and several surrounding departments were called to the scene at 6 p.m. The residence is off Edgewood Drive on the north side of North Hudson.
Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly enough to save the main portion of the house. A real estate agency sign in the front yard said the home is for sale.
Interim Fire Chief Jeff Dabruzzi said Wednesday morning that no one was home when the fire started. A neighbor reported it to authorities.
The cause hasn't been determined, he said. He said an initial report that a grass fire spread to the garage was false.
There were no vehicles in the garage, but a pickup truck was parked in the driveway and sustained some damage, Dabruzzi said. He said the truck was repairable.
Dabruzzi said he didn't know who was living in the house, and didn't have that information with him. He said it could take a couple of days to complete the report on the fire.
St. Croix County land information records say Steven and Kristen Gray are the owners of the house.
Hudson firefighters had just cleaned and put away their engines and equipment following the Highview Road fire when they were called to assist the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department at a house fire on Stagecoach Road in Afton. They didn't return to the Hudson station until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Dabruzzi.
The Hudson department was assisted by units from the St. Joseph, Roberts-Warren, River Falls and Lower St. Croix Valley fire departments in fighting the blaze on Highview Road.
