First steps taken to refill Lake Delton
The third and final gate closed late Wednesday morning on the newly-remodeled dam at Lake Delton.
It's the first major step toward re-filling the lake which got flushed down the Wisconsin River in June when heavy rains created a channel on the shoreline.
The state Department of Natural Resources says things have gone surprisingly well in cleaning up the lake, fixing up two dams and the shoreline, and letting Mother Nature take it course in restoring the water.
In the meantime, unwelcome carp are trapped at the dam.
Chemicals are being used to kill them, so more suitable sport fish can be stocked next year.
Lake Delton is expected to be fully restored by the start of next summer's tourist season.
