The Fonz gets Milwaukee statue in August
Aaaaay, wanna salute the Fonz? Then put Aug. 19 on your calendar.
That's the day a new statue of "Happy Days" TV character Arthur Fonzarelli will be dedicated in downtown Milwaukee, along the Milwaukee River.
Henry Winkler played the Fonz in the 1970s comedy about teen life in Milwaukee.
The group "Visit Milwaukee" commissioned the statue.
It announced the dedication date today (Wednesday).
Winkler will be on hand when the bronze statue is unveiled along with some of the show's stars Tom Bosley, Marion Ross and the show's creator Garry Marshall.
The show also created a spin-off called LaVerne and Shirley, and two characters will also be on hand -- Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams.
The statue was expected to go on the downtown River Walk.
But local businesses suggested a more visible location. The statute will go on the east bank of the Milwaukee River, just south of Wells Street.
