Foundation awards music grants
The St. Croix Valley Community Foundation is awarding $30,000 in grants to enhance music education in the K-12 public and private schools in the St. Croix Valley - St. Croix, Pierce and Polk counties in Wisconsin, and Washington and Chisago counties in Minnesota.
Most grants will fall in the range of $500 to $5,000. Proposals are due Monday, Oct. 6.
An anonymous donor created the Music Education Fund, enabling the foundation to make annual grants that supplement but do not replace a school's music budget. Equal weight will be given to all grades from kindergarten through high school.
A committee of reviewers will evaluate the proposals considering their potential impact on students, innovation and creativity, budget clarity and potential long-range benefits. Applicants may apply for materials such as sheet music and instruments; guest artists and instructors; community outreach performances and inter-school cooperative programs. The committee will consider other ideas as well. Funds are not available for scholarships, uniforms or staff salaries.
To apply, call the foundation at (715) 386-9490; for grant guidelines and application form, visit www.scvcf.org/grant_guidelines_music_education.htm.
