Gerhard Behm, 91

Gerhard Henry "Giggs" Behm, 91, of White Bear Lake, Minn., died Thursday, Feb. 21.

He and his twin sister, Gertrude, were born Oct. 30, 1916, in Hudson to George and Irene (Kahmeyer) Behm.

Gerhard graduated from Hudson High School in 1936 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Blue Lake Camp near Minocqua. He served in World War II in the 32nd Division of the U.S. Army on various islands in the Pacific Theater.

After discharge he married Elaine Jeanette Legrid at their family farm in Star Prairie. They raised their family in rural Lake Elmo, Minn., and she died in 1985. He later married Iona Metzger.

For most of his career he worked as a carpenter for Roy Shelgren Construction.

Among those preceding him in death were siblings, Adella Krech, Gertrude Quarberg, Edith Swanson, Arthur Behm and Wallace Behm.

Memorials are preferred to VFW Post 2115, Hudson.
