Girl gymnasts earn good scores at Minnesota meet

The girls Level 4 and Level 5 teams from Hudson School of Gymnastics competed in two recent Minnesota meets.

They traveled to Maple Grove on Jan. 26 for the Lights, Camera, Action meet hosted by Gleason's, and to Buffalo on Feb. 9 for the Sweetheart Invitational Meet hosted by Gym-Nation.

The Hudson Level 4 team took second place at the Gleason's meet.

Jacqueline Balsiger, a 7-year-old from River Falls, scored an 8.325 on beam, an 8.75 on bars, a 9.0 on floor exercise and a 9.0 on vault to take sixth all-around with a total score of 35.075.

Grace Kazak, a 9-year-old from Hudson, took first place on vault with a score of 9.25.

Hudson Middle School student Madison Rohde, 11, took third place on vault with a 9.1.

Also contributing to the team's win were Amira Tobasi, 9, of Hudson, with an 8.60 on the bars and an 8.125 in the floor exercise; Chelsea Reilly, 11, of Baldwin, with an 8.350 on the beam; Courtney Klatt, 9, of Hudson, with an 8.65 on the bars; and Mary McCoshen, 8, of Hudson, with an 8.125 in the floor exercise.

Other competing members of the team were Lucy Cumming, 7, of Hudson; Briana Cruz, 7, of New Richmond; Elizabeth Hughes, 7, of Hudson; and Karina Gilson, 6, of Hudson.

The Level 5 team also scored well at Gleason's with Gabriela Cruz of New Richmond, placing fifth all-around in the 10-year-old age class with a score of 32.575. Cruz scored a 7.95 on the vault, an 8.05 on the bars, an 8.25 on the beam and an 8.325 in the floor exercise.

In the ages 7-9 class, Kaitlyn Gilson, a student at E.P. Rock Elementary, placed fifth all-around with a combined score of 31.7. Gilson scored an 8.2 in the floor exercise and an 8.55 on beam.

Also in the 7-9 age class, Olivia Koehler, a student at North Hudson Elementary, placed sixth overall with a combined score of 31.525. Koehler scored an 8.05 on the beam and an 8.3 on the vault.

Brianna Kubic, 9, of River Falls, placed seventh all around in the 7-9 age class with a combined score of 31.5. She earned a score of 7.9 on the bars and an 8.25 on the beam.

Gabrielle Hughes, 9, a student at Hudson Prairie Elementary, placed seventh on the beam with a score of 8.150 and eighth on the vault with a score of 7.65.

Accurate results from the Sweetheart Invitational Meet in Buffalo weren't available due to a scoring table compilation error.

The Level 4 and Level 5 girls teams at Hudson School of Gymnastics are coached by gym owners Seaok An and her husband, Hwichul Kim. They are assisted by UW-River Falls gymnast Emily Schmitz.
