The Hudson girls basketball team went down fighting.

The Raiders made a run at the Eau Claire Memorial girls in the closing minutes of their game Friday night at Eau Claire. They came up short, however, losing the final game of the Big Rivers Conference schedule by a score of 55-44.

The Raiders finished the season tied with Menomonie for last place in the conference. Both teams went 1-11 in Big Rivers play.

The Hudson girls were 4-16 overall heading into Tuesday night's WIAA tournament opener at Eau Claire North.

The Old Abes' victory Friday night gave them a three-way share of the conference championship. Memorial, Eau Claire North and Rice Lake each finished the schedule with 9-3 records.

The Hudson girls scored just 12 points in the first half and trailed by 12 at the break.

They held their own in the rough-and-tumble second half, which resulted in the teams shooting 28 free throws in the fourth quarter.

A basket by Amy Frye with 1:36 left in the game narrowed the Memorial lead to 49-41, but that was as close as the Raiders could get.

The Old Abes' Megan Etten made five free throws in the closing minute and a half to preserve the victory for her team.
