The Hudson boys' golf team made a statement at the 20-team Wisconsin Dells Invitational over the weekend by taking first place in a field that included several strong Madison-area schools.

The Raiders posted 18-hole scores of 317 Friday and 298 Saturday to finish with a two-day total of 615. Holmen finished second while Madison Memorial was third.

Day one at Trappers Turn was a beautiful day for golf as the team finished the day in fourth place. Hudson was led by Hunter Satterfield's 77, Jake Miller's 78, and 81's by Mike Sarno and Luke Burbach.

Going into Saturday Hudson needed to make up nine strokes on Madison Memorial. The team shot lights out with Miller leading the way with an even par 72. Sarno followed with a 73, and Satterfield a 74. Burbach finished up the scoring with a 79 for a great comeback and the win.

"I was proud of how smart the players played the courses this weekend, showing they know how to manage their game," Raider head coach Bill Schaub said.

Monday the team traveled to Tartan to try and defend their title at the 16-team invitational against many Minnesota teams.

"As defending champions, the players were excited to try and keep the trophy in Hudson," Schaub said. "That is exactly what they did."

On a cold, windy, rainy day the team took first with a score of 318. Tartan finished second with 320 and New Richmond third at 326.

Satterfield stayed hot with a 76 and took medalist honors for the tournament. Close behind in second place with a 78 was Miller. Sam Stephens stepped up with an 80 followed by Burbach's 84.

"I was happy with the scores in those conditions," Schaub said. "The team is showing some real toughness early in the year."

The Raiders will begin conference competition this week with matches on Tuesday, April 21 in Eau Claire and Thursday, April 23 at Chippewa Falls.

In junior varsity action, Jon Renfrow shot a 9-hole score of 38, freshman Ben Lewis finished with 40, Jeremy Salantine added a 41 and Brody Belland a 42 to lead the Raiders to a win over River Falls Thursday at Baldlands Golf Course.

The JV will have two matches this week, playing at Clifton Hollow against River Falls on Tuesday, April 21 and at New Richmond on Thursday, April 23.
