Gymnasts fourth at River Falls Invite
Senior Paige Kazak and sophomore Toria Ferrell both finished in the top ten in the all-around to help the Raider gymnastics team to a fourth place finish at the 12-team River Falls Invitational Saturday in River Falls.
Kazak took seventh in the all-around with a total score of 33.625 while Ferrell finished tenth with 32.5.
Host River Falls took first in the final team standings with 139.35 points followed by a pair of Minnesota schools--Chisago Lakes with 133.15 and Centennial with 131.475. Hudson was fourth with 128.475 while Stewartville, Minn. finished fifth with 128.175.
Kazak posted the Raiders' highest individual finish of the day by placing fifth in the vault with a score of 8.775. She also took ninth on the uneven bars with an 8.15 and tenth on the balance beam with 8.4. She added a 17th place score of 8.3 in the floor exercise to give her an all-around total of 33.625.
Brooke Rozenboom reached the awards stand in the uneven bars competition by finishing seventh with a score of 8.275, while Ferrell earned a medal on the balance beam with an 8.475.
Ferrell also placed 10th on floor with a score of 8.5, 12th in the vault with 8.35 and 30th on bars with 7.175.
Sarah Monette posted scores of 8.4 on the floor, 7.9 in the vault, 7.025 on bars and 6.775 on beam to finish 18th in the all-around competition with a total of 30.1.
Senior Jenny Strom contributed scores of 7.9 on floor and 7.9 on vault to the Raiders' team total.
The Raiders suffered a blow before the tournament began when sophomore all-around gymnast Amanda Baker injured her knee during warm-ups for the balance beam. Sophomore Kirstin Strom stepped in to post a 29th place score of 7.4 on beam while also scoring 7.75 on the floor and 7.45 in the vault in Baker's absence. Sarah Erickson replaced Baker on bars and posted a score of 7.675.
The Raiders return to Big Rivers Conference dual action Thursday night, Jan. 21 when they host River Falls at 6:30 p.m. at Willow River Elementary School. Saturday, Jan. 30, they will host the Hudson Invitational beginning at 10 a.m., also at Willow River Elementary.
