Gymnasts' scores keep climbing
The Raider gymnastics team wasn't content with posting a season-high score of 132.8 in its dual meet against River Falls last Tuesday, Jan. 24. So it went out and scored even higher at its own Hudson Raider Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Olivia Dunlap and senior Amanda Baker both placed in the top-five in the all-around competition and the Raiders finished with a team score of 134.55 to finish third at the 8-team tournament in the Willow River Elementary School gym.
River Falls took home the team title with a score of 138.45 while the Raiders finished less than a half-point behind second place Tartan's score of 135.0.
Dunlap's fourth place effort in the all-around was her best finish at an invitational this season. She finished with a total score of 34.55 while Baker placed fifth with 34.275.
Baker had the Raiders' highest individual finish of the day, placing second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.125. three-tenths of a point out of first place, while Dunlap's best finish came on the uneven parallel bars with a third place score of 8.6.
Sophomore McKenna Daulton finished fourth on the floor with a score of 9.0 while Dunlap placed seventh with an 8.8 to give Hudson three of the top seven spots in the event.
The Raiders had three of the top ten finishers on the balance beam, with Daulton placing eighth with a score of 8.4, Dunlap ninth with 8.2 and Baker tenth with 8.15.
In addition to Dunlap's third place finish on the uneven bars, Baker placed seventh with a score of 8.2, while in the vault, Dunlap was sixth with an 8.95 and Baker finished seventh with 8.8.
In the junior varsity portion of the tournament, freshman Claire Van Valkenburg had her best finish of the season, placing sixth with a score of 25.75.
Last Tuesday in a Big Rivers Conference dual meet against River Falls, Dunlap was second in the all-around with a score of 35.45, Baker was fourth with 32.95 and Daulton finished fifth with 32.225 as the Raiders posted a team score of 132.8. River Falls scored 139.3 to remain undefeated in BRC competition.
Baker turned in the Raiders' only first place score of the night--a 9.225--in the floor exercise. She and Dunlap both scored 8.9 in the vault to tie for second while Daulton finished fourth with an 8.5. Dunlap also finished second on the uneven bars with an 8.725 and third on the balance beam with 8.825.
Senior Kristin Strom boosted the Raiders' team total in the vault with a sixth place score of 8.325 while sophomore Maddy Rohde tied for seventh with an 8.2.
Junior Tammy Tulibaski added an eighth place score of 7.535 on the uneven bars while junior Brooke Miller took eighth on the balance beam with a score of 7.425.
The Raiders will travel to Eau Claire Memorial for their final BRC dual on Thursday, Feb. 9.
